Packing list:
Bring a few pairs of quick drying shorts, light pants, T-shirts that are easy to dry and your bathing suit. Shirts can be short sleeved and long sleeved for protection against the sun and bugs. In general, you will normally be comfortable in shorts and T-shirts during the day, and long pants and a shirt at night. We recommend bringing a rain coat for rainy days and a long sleeved sweater for higher elevations. We also recommend bringing a copy of your passport, camera, binoculars, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, a small towel, hat, sandals with ankle straps, hiking tennis shoes and a strap to secure your glasses. If you are an experienced bike rider, we invite you to bring your own cycling shoes and pedals. We can install your pedals on our mountain bikes for an even better ride!

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 ≈ Arriving in Costa Rica [top]
We will be waiting for you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San José, Costa Rica (SJO). After you arrive and meet your Costa Rica Adventures guides, we begin your adventure to Turrialba valley for your lodging destination at the mountain lodge Turrialtico. It will be about a 2 ½ hour ride through small towns, beautiful coffee farms, and sugar cane fields around the mountains. We will stop for lunch or dinner on the way to the hotel. When we arrive to hotel you will enjoy the comfortable accommodations with a wonderful view of Angostura Lake, Turrialba valley and Turrialba Volcano. You will have a delicious Costa Rican dinner served at the panoramic restaurant.
Day 2 ≈ Whitewater Rafting or kayaking - Pejivalle River [top]
After a delicious breakfast, we will prepare for our river journey to the Pejivalle River. On the way to the Pejivalle River we will pass through beautiful coffee plantations, macadamia trees and sugar cane fields.
When we arrive to the river we will outfit you with all necessary equipment to start our first paddling day. The Pejivalle River has 10 miles of whitewater with class II and III rapids. This section is very scenic and has very beautiful vegetation. You will enjoy a wonderful morning along the Pejivalle River, observing and listening to the many species of birds and wildlife. There will be many opportunities for swimming or relaxing next to the river before we take out.
This is a perfect trip for kids and the family. The water is warm and very clear. We will provide a delicious riverside lunch prepared by your guides before we get to the take out.
After our river journey, you will rest and relax at the panoramic mountain lodge Cerro Alto. You will have a wonderful view of the Turrialba valley, Angostura Lake and Turrialba Volcano.
Tonight, you will enjoy a healthy dinner at the panoramic restaurant Cero Alto before you end the evening.
Day 3 ≈ Rappelling Aquiares Waterfall, swimming and hiking the Turrialba Volcano National Park cloud forest [top]

Rappelling & Swimming
After a healthy breakfast we will outfit you with all necessary equipment to start our rappelling tour at the Aquiares Waterfall. We will be hiking for about 20 minutes before we arrive to the top of the waterfall. At the top of this waterfall there is a short water slide into a pool. It is here where you can relax and swim while your guides prepare everything for your rappelling experience. Safety lines are setup to ensure your safety while you descend down the 90 feet high waterfall. Don't miss out on this great experience!
Hiking the Turrialba Volcano cloud forest National Park
After rappelling down the waterfall and swimming, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at local restaurant.
We will prepare for our volcano tour in the town of Turrialba. We will drive to the top of Turrialba Volcano and hike down to the craters.
You will see the amazing views of the valley and the Caribbean coast! It is here where we explore this beautiful place.
The Turrialba Volcano is a National Park that is approximately 3,332 meters above the sea level. The Turrialba Volcano presents 3 well-defined craters and others disfigured by the activity. The central crater is the deepest of them all at 50 meters deep. On its sides, there are two promising cones: the Tiendilla Peak and the Armando Peak . Presently, these "smokers" only release gas and vapor, with sulfur deposits. The last eruption was between 1864-1866. Its average temperature is 16°C and with an average precipitation of 3,000 to 4,000 millimeters per year.
This is a perfect tour for the adventurous people who would like to experience nature, the regional culture, and the wonderful views of Turrialba Valley.
After the volcano tour you will rest and relax at the Hotel Wagelia in Turrialba town.
This evening you can explore the Turrialba town and go shopping at the local markets and souvenir stores. Tonight we will enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant before you end the evening.
Day 4 ≈ Whitewater Rafting or kayaking - Lower Pacuare River, waterfall hike, Serpentario (Exotic reptiles) Optional mountain bike descent to the river put in [top]
After a delicious breakfast, we will prepare for our river journey to the Pacuare River. The Pacuare has been recognized as one of the top five most beautiful rivers around the world from the National Geographic magazine.
On the way to the river we will visit the Serpentario. The Serpentario., is a center for snake research and education in Costa Rica. Here we will listen to a brief talk on tropical snake identification and learn about other reptiles species.
We will have the option of mountain biking down to the put in when we arrive to the main entrance of the Pacuare River. This bike ride will be about 3 miles long. This ride includes a support vehicle for immediate assistance, so there's no need to worry!
It will be about a 1/2 hour ride through beautiful farms, agriculture fields around the mountains, and primary/secondary-growth forests. You will enjoy the amazing views of this tropical paradise. If you are an experienced bike rider, we invite you to bring your own cycling shoes and pedals. We can install your pedals on our mountain bikes for an even better ride.
We will start our rafting or kayaking whitewater adventure on the Pacuare River. You will enjoy a wonderful morning along the Pacuare River, observing and listening to the many species of birds and wildlife.
On our river descent we will stop to do a waterfall hike where you can take pleasure in swimming and enjoy the view of the surrounding tropical environment. For this trip, we will descend 18 miles down the river.
This whitewater adventure trip starts at eight hundred meters above the sea level and finishes at forty meters.
After some great hikes and wonderful rapids, we will provide a delicious riverside lunch prepared by your guides.
Our trip continues down to the most challenging sections of the Pacuare River with three class IV drops. This spectacular river canyon and virgin rainforest is breathtaking, creating one unforgettable experience. There will be many opportunities for swimming or relaxing next to the river before we take out. At the take out you can use the facilities of changing rooms, showers, gift shop, restaurant & bar service.
Depending on your vacation needs, we can drop you off at the following destinations: San Jose, Sarapiqui, Turrialba, south Caribbean or La Fortuna town. We will stop for a nice dinner to celebrate our fantastic trip together before we get to your next lodging destination to say our good-byes!. (Drop off)
