Packing list:

Bring a few pairs of quick drying shorts, light pants, T-shirts that are easy to dry and your bathing suit. Shirts can be short sleeved and long sleeved for protection against the sun and bugs. In general, you will normally be comfortable in shorts and T-shirts during the day, and long pants and a shirt at night. We recommend bringing a rain coat for rainy days and a long sleeved sweater for higher elevations. We also recommend bringing a copy of your passport, camera, binoculars, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, hat, a small towel, sandals with ankle straps, hiking tennis shoes and a strap to secure your glasses. If you are an experienced bike rider, we invite you to bring your own cycling shoes and pedals. We can install your pedals on our mountain bikes for an even better ride!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 ≈ Welcome to Costa Rica [top]

We will be waiting for you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO). turrialba_mountainsAfter you arrive and meet your Costa Rica Adventures guides, we begin your kayaking adventure to Turrialba Valley for your lodging destination at the Hotel Interamericano. The hotel is known for its cleanliness, security and friendly atmosphere. It is centrally located and within walking distance to restaurants, movie, etc. There are good beds and firm mattresses throughout and hot Showers for your comfort.

It will be about a 2 ½ hour ride through small towns, beautiful coffee farms, and sugar cane fields around the mountains. We will stop for lunch or dinner on the way to the hotel. When we arrive to the hotel you will enjoy the comfortable accommodations with a bar service, a large living room and a balcony to sit back and relax. We will have a delicious Costa Rican meal served at a local restaurant before you end the evening.

Day 2 ≈ Lower section of the Pejivalle River [top]

Today we will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. After breakfast we will outfit you with all necessary equipment to start our first paddling day. Today we’re going to do some class II / III rapids on the lower section of the Pejivalle River. Pejivalle River

This trip will be 9 miles long with spectacular jungle scenery all the way down. Lunch is prepared, riverside, by your guides. This will be a perfect river descent to warm up for the upcoming week. After paddling, we will take you for a city tour in Turrialba to go sightseeing in town for a few hours. We will then transfer to your next lodging destination at Turrialtico Mountain Lodge on top of mountain in Turrialba valley.

When we arrive to the lodge you will enjoy the comfortable accommodations with a wonderful view of the Turrialba valley and Turrialba Volcano.  We will have a delicious Costa Rican meal served at the panoramic restaurant before you end the evening.

Day 3 ≈ Upper-Upper section of the Pacuare River  [top]Upper_Upper_section

The day begins with a healthy breakfast to get ready for this new adventure on the Pacuare River. After breakfast, we continue to the beautiful Pacuare River, which leads you through a scenic tropical jungle. We will travel about 1 ½ hours to the Pacuare River canyon. We will see lots of local birds, butterflies and local Costa Rican life along the way.

The Pacuare River is one of the top five most beautiful rivers around the world in the National Geographic magazine. This section starts with nice, calm class II/III warm whitewater rapids and gets a little more difficult as we continue down this rainforest river. kayak_tripThe rapids are very fun and exciting. There are nice play spots along the way and there are two class IV rapids. However, you can walk around them in case you feel unsure.

Lunch is prepared, riverside, by your guides. After paddling we will return to town for your new lodging destination at Cerro Alto Lodge on top of the mountain in Turrialba Valley.

Tonight you will have a delicious Costa Rican meal served at the panoramic restaurant with a wonderful view of Agostura Lake and Turrialba Valley before you end the evening.

Day 4 ≈ Sarapiqui River La Virgin section & Serpentarium (Exotic reptiles) [top]

After a healthy breakfast at the panoramic restaurant we will get ready for this paddling day on the Sarapiqui River.sarapiqui_adventure On the way to the river we will visit the Serpentarium. The Serpentarium is a center for snake research and education in Costa Rica . Here we will listen to a brief talk on tropical snake identification and learn about other reptiles species.

Today you will enjoy class II/III whitewater rapids with a beautiful combination of wildlife, clear water, deep pools and jungle scenery. La Virgin is the most popular run on the Sarapiqui River.

We will have lunch on the river and spend some time swimming and relaxing along the river bank. After paddling, we will be lodging at Tia Rosita cabins. This evening you will enjoy a delicious and authentic Costa Rican dinner.

Day 5 ≈ Reventazon River Florida section  [top]

After a tropical breakfast we will travel to the Reventazon River Florida section. ReventazonThis is the lower section of the Reventazón River with class II, III whitewater rapids. This kayaking trip will be a 10 mile river descent on an open canyon.

You can take pleasure in exotic bird watching and beautiful vegetation. There are many play spots and continuous rapids in this section. Class II/III paddlers will experience all these thrilling big whitewater rapids and the beautiful scenery. We will stop in every play spot to have fun surfing big waves in this tropical paradise. Lunch is prepared, riverside, by your guides. After our kayaking trip, we will return to Turrialba valley for your lodging destination at the Hotel Wagelia.

Day 6 ≈ Overnight whitewater trip, Lower section of the Pacuare River, Mountain Biking, Rappelling & Waterfall hike [top]mountain biking

The adventure trip on lower Pacuare River, has been recognized as one of the top five most beautiful rivers around the world from the National Geographic magazine.

The overnight trip on the Pacuare River is very beautiful. You will be able to spend more time on the river and at the Jungle Lodge, where you can take pleasure in viewing exotic birds and wildlife. We will have the option of mountain biking down to the put in when we arrive to the main entrance of the Pacuare River. This bike ride will be about 3 miles long. This ride includes a support vehicle for immediate assistance, so there's no need to worry! It costa rica waterfall hikewill be about a 1/2 hour ride through beautiful farms, agriculture fields around the mountains, and primary/secondary-growth forests. You will enjoy the amazing views of this tropical paradise.

If you are an experienced bike rider, we invite you to bring your own cycling shoes and pedals. We can install your pedals on our mountain bikes for an even better ride.

For this trip, we will descend 21 miles down the river. The overnight trip starts at eight hundred meters above the sea level and finishes at forty meters.rappelling_trip

The first day we will descent 10 miles and have two river hikes. We will be rappelling down two waterfalls and we will enjoy a delicious river lunch before we get to the campsite.

After some great hikes and wonderful rapids, you will arrive at our remote campsite created along a mountain overlooking the Pacuare River. There are 15 tents spaced at a comfortable distance from each other to allow breathtaking panoramic views.

The Jungle Lodge is a wonderful place to enjoy the view of the surrounding tropical environment. We have a 20 person bar with a balcony and hammocks to sit back and relax in. Full shower and bathroom facilities are available, with nearby hiking trails and riverside beaches. After settling into camp, you are free to go swimming, explore the jungle, or just sit back in a hammock and relax. We will enjoy happy hour with free drinks and snacks. Dinner is prepared by your river guides.

Day 7 ≈ Jungle lodge, Jungle hike, Whitewater kayaking / Rafting [top]costa rica camping tour

After breakfast at our jungle lodge, we will do a hike to the beautiful jungle where you can enjoy this tropical paradise.We will pack our belongings and continue our river journey. We will leave the lodge and enjoy a wonderful morning along the Pacuare River, observing and listening to the many species of birds and wildlife. We will have one more river hike to a wonderful waterfall where you can swim and enjoy the jungle in this tropical paradise.

After the hike, our whitewater trip continues down the most challenging sections of the Pacuare River with 3 class IV drops. raft tripThis spectacular river canyon and virgin rainforest is breathtaking, creating one unforgettable experience. There will be many opportunities for swimming or relaxing next to the river before we take out.

Lunch is prepared, riverside, by your guides. After lunch we will continue our river descent in class II/III rapids with many play spots to enjoy the nice, warm water before we get to the take out. There is a restaurant, a bar, showers and changing rooms at the take out. This evening we will celebrate our fantastic week together during our last dinner at a local restaurant in Turrialba town. Tonight you will be lodging at the Hotel Interamericano.

Day 8 ≈ San José Juan Santamaria International Airport, Drop off and Departure [top]

We will pick you up at your hotel after a great breakfast and then transfer to San Jose International Airport to say our good-byes!. (SJO) Drop-off and departure.
